Free Tuition Programs

The 15 public universities in Michigan are committed to providing a quality education at an affordable price. Many universities now offer free tuition programs for some of our state’s students with the highest need. Each program has additional restrictions and/or requirements not listed here. Please check with each campus for full details.

Central Michigan University

CMU Tuition Advantage

MI resident, family AGI and family assets ≤$65K each, Pell Grant eligible. Mt. Pleasant main campus students only

Eastern Michigan University

Eagle Guarantee

3.0+ high school GPA, Pell Grant and Michigan Achievement Scholarship eligible, family assets of <$60K

Ferris State University

Ferris Pledge

MI resident, Pell Grant and Michigan Achievement Scholarship eligible, Big Rapids main campus students only

Grand Valley State University

Grand Valley Pledge

MI resident, family AGI ≤$50K, family assets of ≤$50K

Lake Superior State University

No institutional tuition guarantees, but free tuition may be possible by filling out the FAFSA. Additionally, this campus participates in Phase I of the state Tuition Incentive Program, providing two years of free tuition.

MI residents who are Medicaid eligible for 24 months within a 36-month span in middle or high school are eligible for TIP.

Michigan State University

Spartan Tuition Advantage

MI resident, Pell Grant eligible, family income ≤$65K

Michigan Technological University

No institutional tuition guarantees, but free tuition may be possible by filling out the FAFSA. Additionally, this campus participates in Phase I of the state Tuition Incentive Program, providing two years of free tuition.

Northern Michigan University

NMU Tuition Advantage

MI resident, Pell Grant and Michigan Achievement Scholarship eligible. Global Campus students are ineligible.
