Free Tuition Programs
The 15 public universities in Michigan are committed to providing a quality education at an affordable price. Many universities now offer free tuition programs for some of our state’s students with the highest need. Each program has additional restrictions and/or requirements not listed here. Please check with each campus for full details.

Ferris State University | Ferris Pledge | MI resident, Pell Grant and Michigan Achievement Scholarship eligible, Big Rapids main campus students only |
Grand Valley State University | Grand Valley Pledge | MI resident, family AGI ≤$50K, family assets of ≤$50K |
Lake Superior State University | No institutional tuition guarantees, but free tuition may be possible by filling out the FAFSA. Additionally, this campus participates in Phase I of the state Tuition Incentive Program, providing two years of free tuition. | MI residents who are Medicaid eligible for 24 months within a 36-month span in middle or high school are eligible for TIP. |
Michigan State University | Spartan Tuition Advantage | MI resident, Pell Grant eligible, family income ≤$65K |
Michigan Technological University | No institutional tuition guarantees, but free tuition may be possible by filling out the FAFSA. Additionally, this campus participates in Phase I of the state Tuition Incentive Program, providing two years of free tuition. | MI residents who are Medicaid eligible for 24 months within a 36-month span in middle or high school are eligible for TIP. |
